Designer Ross Lovegrove's eye-catching modern take on the lava lamp.  Available with green or yellow lava in clear liquid.

The funkily futuristic Fluidium stands at just under two feet tall and is crafted from injection-moulded polycarbonate and curvy soda lime glass.  Its bright colouring and ultra-modern curvy styling commands attention in any location.

Switched on, it gives off a space-age glow from within and, due to the wax colour matching the base and cap, it creates the delicious illusion of lava melting from the outer body and floating around the refreshing clear liquid inside the lamp.

The "invincible collaboration" between Mathmos and Ross Lovegrove - one of Europe's leading product designers - gave rise to this "lava lamp for the New Millennium".

Lovegrove apparently relished the opportunity to bring his bold, organic shapes to a new audience - and to finally design for a British manufacturer.  Prior to the Fluidium lava lamp, he worked on a diverse range of projects including solar houses and aircraft interiors, and was involved with big names such as Sony, Apple, Louis Vuitton, Issey Miyake, Tag Heuer and Biomega.

Mathmos Fluidium lava lamps are available in the following colour schemes:

• Yellow  (yellow lava in clear liquid with yellow base and cap)

The Mathmos Fluidium is made in Poole, Dorset (not far from Electric Planet HQ, as it happens) - yet another Great British design masterpiece.
